Here is a quick way to burn a Data CD with Windows.
Making a data CD with a rewritable CD is a great and cheap way to store information. Windows XP makes it really easy to create a data CD and all you need is a blank CD RW, CD burner, Windows XP.
*** To see if you computer has a Rewritable CD drive, check the front of the drive and see if it says, RW or Rewritable. ***
Of course now they have those inexpensive USB Storage devices that can store a few gigs of information but a Rewritable CD is very cheap and can be written over as many times as you like unlike writable CD’s that can only be written to once. A blank CD RW can last you a long time (as long as you don’t scratch it).
The sweet part about using a rewritable CD is that you can copy your data to it and use it at another time to copy more data and you’ll be surprised how much data you can store on it. This will only work with a data CD and WILL NOT WORK WITH MUSIC. Lets make a data CD!!!
Using a Blank CD RW to make a Data CD.
Follow these steps below to make your data CD.
1.Insert the blank CD RW in your rewritable CD drive.
2.Go to Start -> My Computer and click on the DVD/CD-RW Drive (most of the time CD RW Drives are also DVD Drives). Keep this window open.
3.Now go to where your data is (maybe you store it in My Documents) and select the file you want to burn and drag and drop it into the DVD/CD-RW Drive folder.
** If you want to select the whole folder and select: Edit -> Select All and now you can drag the whole folder. **
4.The last step is to go to the DVD/CD-RW Drive window and on the left select:
-Write these files to a CD -> Enter CD name and Next (it could take a few minutes depending on the size of the files) -> Finish
You now have your data CD that you can use in other computers. If you want to delete files off of the rewritable CD, simple open it through My Computer. Then you can right click on a file and Delete it. Reuse the rewritable CD as many times as you want. It is a great alternative to making a data CD instead of buying a USB Drive
