Creating a desktop shortcut is a great and simple way to make your life easier. If you have a favorite program that you access a lot, make a desktop shortcut that appears on your desktop so you don’t have to look for the program every time you need it. We’ll give you directions to create desktop shortcut and to delete shortcut.
Create a Desktop Shortcut
Follow these simple steps to create shortcut. We’ll make a desktop shortcut for the calculator because it is uniform across Windows.
1. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> and put the mouse pointer over Calculator
2. With the mouse hovered over Calculator right click and go down to Send To and select Desktop (create shortcut).
To rename the your desktop shortcut, right click on it and select Rename.
That’s it, you just made a desktop shortcut for your calculator. Go to your desktop and double click on the icon to use it. Use the same technique to make a shortcut for you favorite programs.
**Hint** If you can not find a program through the start menu go to My Computer -> Local Disk (C:) -> Program Files. All of your programs are listed here. If your having trouble finding the file to make a shortcut for the program, look for the .exe file. This is the application file and if you double click this .exe file, it will start the program. **
Delete Shortcut

- This is a simple step. Go to your desktop shortcut and right click on it. Scroll down to select Delete -> Yes. Done.
